How to make your scanner last longer!
Here are 6 tips to help keep your equipment in top shape for as long as possible.
It’s frustrating and inconvenient when a scanner slows down or fails prematurely. Fortunately, these problems are often easily preventable. Here are a few tips!
Tips to keep your scanner running smoothly
1. Use the Original Power Supply
Always use genuine power supplies (and genuine add-ons) that are designed specifically for your device’s battery and requirements. We’ve seen cases where customers purchased so-called “fast chargers” that were not designed for their scanners. This can overload the battery, causing it to degrade faster!
2. Don’t leave it in the dock
When scanners are left in the charger for days or even weeks, they are continuously charged to 100%. Unfortunately, lithium-ion batteries don’t like this at all. Fully charging the battery increases the voltage, which can accelerate chemical wear. It’s much better to avoid charging them to 100% and only put them in the station when they need to be charged.
3. Avoid total discharge
Lithium-ion batteries don’t like this extreme either: leaving scanners at 0% charge for extended periods of time can cause chemical damage that significantly affects battery performance and life.
4. Avoid extreme heat or cold
Like many of us, lithium-ion batteries prefer moderate temperatures.
When temperatures drop below 0°C, battery performance drops. Why does this happen? Because the chemical reactions that produce energy slow down. The internal resistance of the battery increases, resulting in reduced capacity and performance.
High temperatures can also harm lithium-ion batteries: heat accelerates chemical degradation, can cause the liquid electrolyte to break down, and can lead to gas formation that can cause the battery to swell and, in extreme cases, become dangerous. Therefore, do not leave your scanner or other devices with lithium-ion batteries in direct sunlight or other hot environments!
5. Reboot Occasionally
It’s beneficial to completely shut down the scanner from time to time. Over time, temporary files and cached data can accumulate. Restarting the scanner will clear these, free up memory, and improve the performance of the device.
6. Protect your device
Most of us protect our smartphones with cases and screen protectors. You should take the same care with your scanner: a case can prevent damage if it accidentally hits the warehouse floor. A screen protector not only prevents the screen from shattering, but also keeps the display free of scratches so you can continue to read it clearly.
